Vishnuprayag is located at the meeting point of Alakananda River and Dhauliganga River. This place is situated in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. This place gets its name from Lord Vishnu. According to Hindu Mythology, Sage Narad meditated here for Lord Vishnu. He appeared before Sage at this place.


What to see in Vishhnuprayag: It is one of the Panch Prayags. Other Panch Prayagas are Rudraprayag, NandaPrayag, Devprayag, and KarnaPrayag. This place is famous for natural beauty with beautiful hill rocks. At the confluence of the rivers a temple can be seen.  This was built by Ahalyabai in 1889. She was the Maharani of Indore at that time. From this temple stairs can be seen by the visitors of this place. These stairs leads to Vishnu Kund. Devotees take a dip in this Vishnu Kund. They believe that persons who take a dip at this place, all the sins will wipe off. But in the recent days dips on this water is restricted as current is very strong here. This place is situated on the route from Joshimath to Badrinath. Badrinath is located 35kms away from this place. Other attractions of this place are adventure sports such as Kayaking, White water rafting and Trekking.


What to see around Vishnuprayag:

Valley of Flowers: It is located 27kms away from the town. Major attractions of this place are Pristine air, snow clad peaks, milky white streams, meadows and alpine shrubs.

Joshimath: It is one among the 4 Peeths (centres).  This is most sacred place to the Hindus. It was established by Adi Shankaracharya. This place is located 10kms away from the town.

Auli: This offers best view of Himalayan Mountain ranges. It is located on the way to Badrinath, which is the best pilgrim place for the Hindus. This is most popular winter destination in Uttarakhand. It is located 24kms away from the town.

Hemkund Sahib: It is located 24kms away from the town. For Sikhs there are 508 important pilgrim places in India. It is one of those pilgrim places. This is the highest gurudwara of Sikh community. It is situated in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand.

Badrinath: It is one of the holy places for Hindu Devotes. Badrinath along with Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri is known as Chota Char Dham. It is cradled in Nar Narayan mountain ranges. This place is located 35kms away from the town.


Getting to Vishuprayag: This place is well connected with road ways. Private and state runs buses come to this place from Uttarakhand. Nearest railway station is located at Rishikesh which is 260kms away from the town. From Jammu, Kotdwar, Dehradun, Mumbai and Delhi trains come to this place on regular basis. From this railways station taxis are available to reach Vishnuprayag. Jolly Grant Airport is the nearest airport which is located 280kms away from the town. This airport is well connected to Chandigarh and Delhi. Plenty of taxis are available to reach to vishnuprayag.


Getting around Vishnuprayag: As town is so small one can see this place on foot. Ponies can also be hired to see this place. Buses and Taxis are available to visit the surrounding places of Vishnuprayag.


Best time to visit Vishnuprayag: Vishnuprayag welcomes the visitors throughout the year. But best time to visit this place is between April to November.


Where to stay in Vishnuprayag: only few hotels are available to stay in this town. Along with hotels certain Dharmasalas are also available to stay. Do not expect luxury hotels at this place. Plenty of hotels including luxury hotels are available at Joshimath which is located 10kms away from this place.


Where to eat in Vishnuprayag: Only Few Dhabas are available to have food in this place. These Dhabas mainly serve North Indian Cuisines.
