Lotus Temple is Bahai House of Worship. Its construction completed in 1986.  Regardless of Religion any one can visit this house. With the inspiration of lotus flower this temple was designed. This is located at New Delhi. Other name of Lotus Temple is Bahai Temple.

 

Fariborz Sahba was an architect of this temple. He was an Iranian. Donations were collected to construct this temple. To buy this land major donation was given by Ardishir Rustampur who belongs to Hyderabad. In 1953 he donated this amount. Savings of his entire life donated to this temple. It entered into Guinness book of World Records in 2001. $ 6.5 Postage stamp released featuring Bahai House of Worship.

 

What to see in Lotus Temple: Lotus Temple consists of 27 marble petals. Height of the centre hall is 40 meters tall. There are 9 doors to the temple. Surface of the House made up of white marble. These white marbles imported from Greece belongs to Penteli Mountains. Hall capacity is 2500 people. It was constructed in 26 acres .One of the interesting things here is, this temple is surrounded by 9 ponds and lush green gardens.

 

What to see around Bahai Temple:

Humayun Tomb:  After the death of Humanyun his wife Hamida Begum commissioned the construction of his tomb. It was constructed between 1562 to 1572. It is located 6 Kms away from Bahai Temple.

Akshardham Temple: Akshardham is a Hindu temple complex in Delhi.  This was developed by Pramukh Swami Maharaj. 7000 artisans along with 3000 volunteers worked hard to construct this temple. It is located near the banks of river Yamuna. This is dedicated to lord Swaminarayana. It is located 12 kms away from Bahai temple.

Red Fort: On the Independence Day Prime Minister of India addresses the nation from this fort. In the history this place is having prominent place i.e.  At the end of first war of independence Bhadur Shah Zafar was arrested at this place.  This place is 16 Kms away from Bahai.

Jantar Mantar: This was constructed by Sawai Jai Singh II between 1699 to 1743. This look like gallery of modern art on the first seeing but it is just an observatory. This place is 11 kms away from Bahai.

Purana Qila: This is the best example for Lodi Style of architecture. Other name is Qila i Kuhna Masjid. 3 huge gates can be seen here. It is one of the oldest structures in Delhi. Purana Qila means Old Fort.  It is located 8 kms away from lotus temple.

 

Getting to Bahai Temple: Visitors can reach to this place through roadway. Both private and government buses are available very frequently. Nearest metro station is Kalkaji Mandir Station. From this railway station temple is just half Kilometre away. Indira Gandhi Airport is located in Delhi. From this airport visitors can reach this temple by taxis and auto rickshaws.

Best time to visit Bahai Temple: Some of the travellers want to plan beforehand to visit any place. Best time to visit this place is between October to March.

 

Where to Stay in Bahai Temple: In the temple complex there are no accommodations available. But in Delhi several hotels are available to stay.

 

Where to eat in Bhai Temple: In the temple complex food is not available. Visitors are advised to carry water and food along with them while visiting the temple.
