Madhubani is a district in Bihar, India. Madhubani is derived from the word Madhuban which means Forest of honey. This place is famous for Madhubani Paintings. Madhubani City in this district is World’s second city who adopted democracy. It is centre for Maithili Culture. Madhubani art is 700 years old art. This was first commissioned by King Janak at wedding ceremony of his daughter Goddess Sita. Theme of these paintings includes nature, Hindu gods and Goddesses.

 

What to see at Madhubani:

Saurath: Somnath Mahadev Temple is major attraction of this place. Lord Shiva is worshipped here. Traditional gathering took place here. This gathering is known as Saurath Sabha Gachchhi. It is located 6kms away from Madhubani town.

Naulakha Palace: It was constructed by Maharaja Rameshwar Singh. At the entrance of this place, Durga Bhawan can be seen. A pond is situated before durga bhawan. On the north side of the pond Goddess Kali temple is situated. This palace is 7 storied towers. It is located in Rajnagar town of Madhubani district which is 17kms from Madhubani town.

Bhawanipur: It is located in Madhubani district which is located 5kms away from Pandaul Blcok headquarters. Ugaranath Temple is well known in this place. This temple is associated with renowned poet Vidyapati who was the devotee of Lord Shiva.

Kapileshwar Temple: It is located in Madhubani district. This temple is situated in Radhika Region of this district. Kapil Sage place Shiva Lingam at this place. To develop this place, Darbhanga Raj had taken the responsibility.

Ugna Temple: This temple is located in Bhawanipur Village of Madhubani district. It is located 14kms away from the town of Madhubani. At this place Kavi Vidyapati appeared along with Lord Shiva.

Uchhaitha: This village is located in Madhubani district. Bhagwati Temple is well known at this place. Temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga. It is believed that popular poet Kalidasa was blessed with Goddess Durga at this place. Temple is situated on the banks of River Thumne.
