In the world Chang La is the third highest motorable road. It is the high mountain pass in Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, India. Chang means South and La means Pass. Chang La means Pass towards the South.  This is on the way from Leh to Pangong Lake.

 

What to see in Chang La:  Changla Baba temple is most famous at this place. This pass is named after this temple. It lies on the National Highway 21. Other name of this pass is Leh – Manali Highway. Carrying basic medicines for headache as you climb high air thins. So sometimes it leads to headache. When visitors are driving up to the Chang La Pass one side they can experience Sheer rock and on other side they can see deep cliff.  After reaching to the top of the Chang La Pass, visitors can experience beautiful snow capped mountains.  As it is a restricted area, inner line permission is essential for visiting Chang La. But it is easy to get permission from Divisional Commissioner’s office in Leh. Permission will be given for 3 weeks only. For trekking lovers this is one of the best places.

 

What to see around Chang La:

Hemis Gompa: In 1672AD this was constructed. Every year colourful festival celebrates here in the month of July. This was founded by King Senge Nampar Gyalva.

Nubra Valley: Nubra Valley is a tri armed Valley. This valley is famous for monasteries, Bactrian camels, Scenic Vistas and Orchards. Another attraction of this place is cold desert which lies between Hunder and Diskit.  Tourists come to this place to enjoy the joy rides of Bactrian camels and sand dunes.     Nubra Valley Attractions are Diskit Monastery, Ensa Gompa, Samstemling Gompa, Hunder, Panamik.

Kargil:  Several tourists come to this place for its natural beauty. Plenty of Buddhist Monasteries can be seen here such as Bardan, Sani, Stongdey, Zongkhul, Phuktal, Karsha etc.  Richly cultivated hillsides can be seen here.

Khardung La: This is the only way to enter into Nubra Valley. Other name of this place is K-Top.  In the world, this is one of the highest motorable roads. During the winter season this way will be closed due to heavy snow fall.

 Pangong Lake: In Asia this is the largest Brakish Lake. This is the home places to plenty of migratory birds. Water of the lake consists of Mineral deposits. Marine life cannot be seen in this place. In some of the Bollywood movies and songs this lake can be seen. Depend upon the season colour changes from green to purple to blue.

 

Getting to Chang La: Chang La is well connected with road. Regular Bus service run by Jammu & Kashmir SRTC to this place . Sometimes these are run by private travel agents. Nearest railway station is located at Jammu Tawi. It is well connected with all the major cities. Buses and Taxis are available to reach Changa La from Jammu Tawi. Nearest airport is located at Leh. This is well connected with Kolkata, Mumbai and Delhi.

 

Getting around Chang La:  Best way to explore Changa La Pass is on foot. Buses and Taxis are available to visit the surrounding places of Chang La.

 

Best time to visit Chang La: Best time to visit Chang La pass is between May to October. This route is opens only in these months.

 

Where to stay in Chang La: No accommodations are available to stay in Chang La.

 

Where to eat in Chang La: Except Tea shops, eateries cannot be found in Chang La Pass. At some places few biscuits are available.
